The European Central Bank (ECB) rate is the foreign exchange reference rate published by the European Central Bank. The bank sets out the exchange rate for European currencies against the euro (EUR) at 16:00 Central European time every working day.
The ECB wants to make it easier for consumers to compare the exchange rates being offered on products like Travel Money Card. All banks and financial institutions now have to show how much they mark up their exchange rates by showing their rates in comparison to the ECB rate.
At Post Office we calculate our exchange rates in the morning, and the ECB rate are updated at 16.00 Central European time each working day. Over the weekends, including bank holidays, the rate comparison is calculated using Friday’s ECB rate and Saturday’s Post Office rate.
