How to use Western Union at your Post Office branch

1. Visit one of our 2,700 branches that offers Western Union services with any of these forms of ID

- Passport (UK, EU or EEA)
- Valid driving license (UK, EU or EEA)
- EU or EEA national identity card
- UK Biometric Residence Permit

2. Hand us your ID at the counter

We’ll check to see if you’ve used Western Union before.
If you’ve previously sent money with Western Union, we’ll have your details to hand so we can transfer money in minutes** for you.
If you haven’t used Western Union before, we’ll take some information from your ID, but you may also need to provide us with some extra details verbally or by filling in a form.

3. Pay with cash or a debit card

For added ease you can include the transfer fee in the total amount, or you can pay it separately. A currency exchange rate may also apply***.

4. Contact the recipient

To let them know the money is on its way and pass on the reference number (MTCN) we give you at the counter. They’ll be able to collect their funds in minutes**.

If you’re sending £800 or more, you MUST upload an image of the ID used during the transaction - you will only need to do this once.

1. Ask the sender for the transaction reference number

They will have been given the reference number (MTCN) when they sent the money to you.

2. Pop into a Post Office branch that offers Western Union

Bring one of these forms of ID along with you

- Passport (UK, EU or EEA)
- Valid driving license (UK, EU or EEA)
- EU or EEA national identity card
- UK Biometric Residence Permit

3. Hand us your ID and MTCN at the counter

And we’ll had over your money. If you prefer, you can also complete a ‘receive’ form.

If you’re receiving £800 or more, you MUST upload an image of the ID used during the transaction - you will only need to do this once.
