If you’re driving in the EU, you’ll need to provide proof of your car insurance. There are two potential scenarios to be aware of. Find out more in the common questions section.

What you need to drive abroad will depend to some extent on where you’re going.
Green cards
You may need a green card to drive your vehicle and tow a caravan or trailer in: Albania, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Iran, Israel, Moldova, Morocco, Russia, Tunisia, Turkey, or Ukraine.
You won’t need a green card to do so in: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, or Switzerland.
If you’re visiting a green card country
Insurance to drive in countries where you’ll need a green card must be agreed by your insurer before you go. You may need to pay an extra premium under the terms of your policy.
Please contact us 21 days before you travel. If your insurer agrees to the cover and you’ve paid any additional premiums required, we’ll arrange for a green card to be sent to you.

Policies bought or renewed after May 2021
The “Section 9: Driving Abroad’ part of your terms and conditions will still contain information about the previous EU ruling. This advised green cards were needed in all circumstances. We won’t be reissuing policy documents in the short term. But this section will be updated if you choose to renew your policy.

You can pay annually or in monthly instalments. You’ll need to enter into a credit agreement, subject to status, to pay in monthly instalments. You can pay by credit/debit card or direct debit, but your first payment must always be made with a credit or debit card.
If you choose to pay in monthly instalments, you’ll be charged the APR % stated in your credit agreement. It means you’ll pay more than you’d pay through an annual lump sum arrangement.

If you’re transporting goods in the UK, you don’t need to inform us and you’ll still be covered.
If you’re transporting goods in the EU, our motor insurance policy will provide, at minimum, third-party liability coverage for the duration of the policy. But it’s important to check your policy documents carefully for cover limits and policy exclusions.
