We know a global IT outage may be disrupting your travel plans. If it has, you’ll want to know what your Post Office Travel Insurance covers.

Pre-departure (You are in the UK)

Our travel insurance provides cover for unused travel and accommodation costs when those costs cannot be refunded elsewhere. Customers who have been impacted by any delay in travel should first speak to their airline or service provider to seek a refund. You can also seek refunds from your credit or debit provider or other payment provider you used to book your trip.

If you bought a Travel insurance policy*, limited cover is available under “Missed departure from the UK” and “Delay and abandonment”. Please note for cover to be in force, you must have travelled to your departure point in the UK.  Please refer to your policy wording for full details and limits for your cover level.

*“Missed departure from the UK” and “Delay and abandonment” is not available on our Economy level of cover.

Returning back to the UK

If you paid extra for one of our trip disruption options detailed below before 19 July 2024, cover is provided under “Missed departure and connection outside the UK” and an additional daily benefit will apply.

  • Trip Disruption (including Natural Catastrophe, Terrorism and Air Space Disruption Cover)
  • Trip Disruption Cover (including Covid-19, Terrorism, Natural Catastrophes and Airspace Disruption)

In addition, Baggage Delay Claims – Cover is provided if you can evidence you were without your luggage for the time specified in the terms and conditions and have a PIR. If medication was inside the luggage then we can consider the costs of replacement medication under this section but not any medical consultation needed to obtain this.

Please refer to your policy wording for full details and limits for your cover level.
