The Brazilian real is the official currency of Brazil, abbreviated to BRL. Its currency symbol is R$. One real is subdivided into 100 centavos. The currency is issued by the Central Bank of Brazil. But you can get yours from Post Office, either by buying online or at your local participating branch.

Only Brazil itself uses the Brazilian real as a currency. It’s not used officially by any other country.

Brazilian banknotes come in 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 reals. There’s also a 1 real bank note still in circulation, but it’s rarely seen because it’s no longer printed.
Coins in the currency include the 1 real and the 5, 10, 25 and 50 centavos. Confusingly, other coins are also used in Brazil, minted by community banks and recognised by the Central Bank to help stimulate local economies. You may see some on your travels.
