Common National Lottery questions

  • Simply pop into any retailer that sells National Lottery tickets. This includes over 5,000 Post Office branches in the UK where you can buy National Lottery tickets and scratchcards, so there won’t be one far from you. Find a participating Post Office branch

You can ask the cashier for a Lucky Dip®, where a computer randomly generates your numbers, or fill in a slip where you select your own numbers. Hand the slip to the cashier and they’ll provide you with your tickets. You can also ask for a handy FastPay card – the faster way to play your lucky numbers. The card fits easily into your wallet and your chosen numbers, or a Lucky Dip selection, can be easily scanned at the till each time you want to play.

Remember that if you’re buying tickets for a draw the same evening, there’s a cut-off point at 7.30pm after which you won’t be able to buy tickets for that particular draw.

You can play multiple games at a time if you choose. And you can play up to four weeks in advance if you don’t want to miss a draw. Be sure to put your ticket somewhere safe.

  • For smaller prizes, you can often go to the retailer where you bought your ticket or another National Lottery retailer to claim your prize. For prizes between £500 and £50,000, you can find a participating Post Office branch and pop in. For prizes above this amount (if you’ve won one, congratulations) you’ll need to phone the dedicated National Lottery Line on 0333 234 50 50.

  • There are over 5,000 Post Office branches all over the UK selling National Lottery tickets. Use our branch finder to see which is nearest to you. And, since there’s so much else you can do in any of our branches, you might as well get a few tasks done while you’re at it.
